The REG-D/DA series of voltage regulators for control of transformer tap changers have become the smart standard on many sites around the world. Integrating well developed software with a useful and reliable hardware package – the REG-D and REG-DA have proven track records within the industry, and are the benchmark for reliability and performance.
See our Technical Library for a range of publications on voltage regulator applications. These documents will introduce you to some of the advanced capabilities of the REG-D/DA.
The REG-D can be used for control of a single transformer, or networked to others to provide a range of advanced transformer paralleling routines. Recording and measurement with SCADA option provides a comprehensive transformer control solution. With optional statistics and transformer monitoring mode, oil temperature, hot spot and transformer life calculations provide a comprehensive transformer management solution.
The standard REG-D offers 16 binary inputs & 10 relay outputs. A further 16 binary inputs and 8 relay outputs can simply be added, with further expansion also possible. Optional mA and PT100 input can also be accommodated allowing the REG-D to interface to BCD, mA and Resistance type Tap Position Indicators and PT100 or mA temperature sensors.
The REG-D support a wide range of SCADA protocols, including DNP Serial, DNP-iP, MODBUS RTU/TCP and IEC 61850.
The REG-D is highly configurable, so please feel free to contact us to discuss how we can best configure products to support your scheme needs.

Running same settings and firmware as the REG-D, the more recent REG-DA introduces a wider range of mounting options. Typically flush panel mounted, the steel enclosure may also be DIN rail mounted. The REG-DA offers 1 x mA input, 16 binary inputs & 12 relay outputs as standard. Optional PT100 inputs, additional binary inputs (up to 26) and additional relay outputs can be accommodated in the unit. Using external I/O modules, further binary and analogue inputs and outputs can be added.
Input options allow the REG-DA to interface to BCD, mA and Resistance type Tap Position Indicators and PT100 or mA oil temperature sensors.
A popular configuration for REG-DA used a ‘Remote I/O box’ where the REG-DA is located in the control/relay room, with the I/O Box mounted at the transformer. The I/O Box provides a convenient marshalling point for transformer wiring, with the I/O Box connecting back to the REG-DA via a copper or fibre interface.
REG-DA units support a wide range of SCADA protocols, including DNP Serial, DNP-iP, MODBUS RTU/TCP and IEC 61850.

Significant cost savings can be realised in the design and implementation of transformer control systems when a one-box approach is employed. A.Eberle’s multifunctional REG-D and REG-DA Voltage Regulator Relays (VRR’s) can be equipped with (TMM) Transformer Monitoring Module to provide temperature control of cooling fans and pumps. Thus, in addition to their primary role of controlling the tap changer for voltage regulation, the REG-D/DA “TMM” option provides a number of transformer monitoring and control features.
